Emergency Septic Service in Roderfield, WV

Emergency Septic · Roderfield, WV

When the septic tank cannot take another flush

Emergency septic service is for septic trouble that cannot wait for a regular pumping. Sewage is coming up a drain in the house, or the tank is spilling over in the yard. Honey Dippers takes emergency calls from Roderfield and the counties around it. Call (304) 436-3409, and we tell you when the truck can be there.

A tank that is close to full before a big gathering at the house is a call we take too. When the truck gets there, we pump the tank and look for the cause. If the tank was simply full, the fix is the same work as routine septic tank pumping in Roderfield. If the trouble sits in a line or the drain field, the next step depends on what we find.

What We Handle

  • We tell you on the call when the truck can be there
  • Residential and commercial septic tanks pumped when a backup cannot wait
  • The cause tracked down, whether it is the tank or a line
  • Broken and root-filled septic lines repaired
  • Small plumbing repairs on the septic side of the house
  • Drain field trouble pointed out, so you know to call a septic installer
  • The quote put in writing

What should you do first when sewage backs up?

Stop running water in the house. Every flush and every load of laundry sends more water toward a system that cannot take it. Check for a toilet that keeps running, too. The EPA says one running toilet can add as much as 200 gallons of water a day.

Stay out of standing sewage, inside the house or out in the yard. If sewage came up into a basement, EPA flood guidance says to clean the area and disinfect the floor.

Leave the septic tank lid closed until the truck is there. The EPA warns that septic tanks may hold dangerous gases.

What the truck does on an emergency septic call

Pumping the tank is the first step when the ground allows it. If a full tank caused the backup, pumping brings the level down and the drains in the house run again.

If the tank was not full, the cause is somewhere else. A blocked or broken line between the house and the tank can cause the same backup. Broken and root-filled lines are work we do as well, and our septic line repair page covers it.

A soaked or failing drain field is a different job. Drain field repair belongs to a septic installer, and the county health department answers the permit questions. We tell you what we found, so you know which call to make next.

Septic backups after heavy rain in the southern coalfields

In February 2025, storms and flooding brought a federal disaster declaration to all five West Virginia counties we serve. A hard rain short of a flood can still soak the ground around the drain field. Water leaving the tank then has nowhere to go, so the level backs up toward the house.

EPA flood guidance says a high water table brings a risk of sewage backing up into the home. The same guidance says the way to stop that backup is to use the system less. If floodwater got into the house, clean it up without pouring it down a sink or a toilet. West Virginia's septic rules say roof drains and sump pumps may not connect to a septic system.

Tell us on the call if the yard is under water or the creek is up. That changes when pumping makes sense, and we tell you when the truck can be there.

FAQ

Emergency Septic Questions, Answered

Common questions about emergency septic around Roderfield and the surrounding counties. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (304) 436-3409

What should I tell you when I call?
Tell us what you see and where you see it, inside the house or out in the yard. Tell us when the tank was last pumped, if you know. If the lid is buried or nobody knows where the tank is, say that too. Our page on finding and digging to a buried tank covers that work.
How soon can the truck get here?
That depends on the day's work and the drive to your place. When you call, we tell you when the truck can be there. If anything changes while you wait, call the same number back.
Is sewage in the yard dangerous?
It can make people sick. The EPA says household wastewater carries bacteria and viruses that cause disease. Keep children and pets clear of the area. West Virginia's flood clean-up sheet says to wear rubber boots and gloves and wash your hands often.
Should a septic tank be pumped during a flood?
EPA flood guidance says no, not while the drain field is flooded or soaked. Pumping then is a short fix at best. A tank emptied in soaked soil could try to float up out of the ground and damage its pipes. Use as little water as you can until the ground dries out.
What does an emergency septic call cost?
The price depends on the job. The size of the tank and how deep the lid sits both move it. So does the cause, since a pumping is one job and a broken line is another. Describe the problem on the call, and we put the quote in writing.
What area do you cover for emergency calls?
Roderfield sits at the center of our service area. It covers McDowell County, Wyoming County, Mingo County, Mercer County and Logan County. We also take jobs across the state line in Tazewell County and Buchanan County in Virginia. Our page on the towns and counties we serve has the full list.
